To be a game developer

Apple IIeI started my path to programming at the ripe old age of 7 where I entered code in from magazines onto and Apple II and later the Apple IIe. Beyond that however I never really wrote games, with the exception of a prototype I built for a friend last year for a poker-based video game. While it was an interesting challenge, it was nothing like working on say, Halo or Guitar Hero.

So anyway I just read Nick Halstead’s post on Web Development vs Games Development and I remember thinking about how cool it would be to work on one of these things. Granted, several years is a long time to work on a single project, but I would be interested to see how one of these comes together; how the different teams work together (graphics engine, animators, AI, etc.). Hell if I had the money I would take off for a year or so and just join a team as an intern or whatever just to experience it. Even if they never let me write a line of code it would still be an experience.

While I’m sure it will never happen, it would sure be fun. Anyone else worked for a game company?
