Oracle going to buy Red Hat?
Oracle CEO says Red Hat is in crosshairs
While Larry says that he doesn’t think this will kill Red Hat, maybe the intent is to drive Red Hat’s stock price down, then turn around and buy Red Hat outright. It really makes sense when you consider that Oracle is the only major database vendor that doesn’t have an operating system to bundle with. Microsoft with SQLServer, IBM with AIX, Oracle with …. Red Hat?
In some ways it would also pretty much guarantee that Red Hat will be around, since Oracle can certainly continue to develop it since they are planning to support it anyway. Oracle would also get JBoss as well and would certainly drop their own server, which originated with Orion. They could provide customers with an entire stack, minus hardware, in one nice package. Naturally being Oracle, they would charge an arm and leg for it, but hey as Larry said in the article “This is capitalism”.

Oracle will buy Sun. That way they not only get the OS, they get the hardware also. They’ll end up selling you a Database Appliance, be it a SunFire 880 or a E25K. One solution, one vendor. Plus, Solaris is vastly superior to Linux as a DB platform.
