New CNBC running Tomcat and Struts
I decided to try out the new CNBC website which relaunched recently and I quickly noticed that it is using Struts. The .do extension is quite obvious
What really surprised me however was that they are running it on Tomcat 5.5.17 (I know because I did a view source and got a stacktrace. ooopps…). It is very rare to see a large organization not using one of the bloated commercial app servers. So kudos to them for using open source technology on a such a large scale.
Now, for the bad side. Some of it doesn’t work in Firefox. The shame!! How can Java developers not test this thing in Firefox?? The part that is broke is the ticker tool. First you can’t move from one list to the other, it throws JavaScript errors. Second when I tried to launch the ticker I got a blank browser window. How nice.
Otherwise the site looks pretty nice. If they fix the JavaScript problems I might actually use it.
