Mongrel creator hammers Ruby on Rails

Holy cow, what a rant Zed Shaw goes on. He hammers RoR, several of the core Rails developers, consulting, several companies and then a couple paragraphs on ThoughtWorks.

An entertaining read, unless you are a rails lover then it might mean trouble. Who knows.

Here it is.

Hardly a condemnation of Rails and more one of Zed. But those desperate for Rails to suck will read what they need to.

Oh, a long while back it required a LOT of restarts! Yep. it sucks.

They did let a deranged whiny dude become one of the top Rails dudes. He didn’t make any money (no shock there, clue time, you need more than skill) and goes ballistic. Shocking.

Actually, he does not blast Rails. He’s blasting people with whom he had come into contact whilst working with Rails.

Right. Not much substantive stuff about Rails, though he did give some specifics on some of the newer frameworks like merb, erubis and (of course) mongrel, as to why they are superior to rails.

Even with that anti-Rails Core slant though, he kowtows to several individuals in the Rails Core community, including the most influential people at 37Signals. Then he goes on to single out a few specific, younger developers.

Not sure if this is what he intended, but this kind ad hominem attack is pretty disgusting. I believe it’s called Cyber-bullying.
