How not to give a demo

I sat in on a demo yesterday for this web publishing software that my company is about to buy and a two things stood out as major no-no’s. In this case he was giving the demo over WebEx so he was using his computer. Well, the first thing you should do is close any non essential applications.

Being the brilliant piece of software that WebEx is, it was being particular slow at first and we were getting a choppy result. So the guy giving the demo decided to close a few apps thinking that might help. Well he went to close Outlook and it promptly slowed everything down. The real problem though was that after a few seconds of waiting we saw Outlook pop up showing an email from his landlord telling him that he was still going to have to pay the $50 late fee for his rent not getting in on time. OK, so that finally goes away and the demo goes on…

Being web publishing software he was using Firefox to show the resulting web site, which was ironic in itself since they were a Microsoft shop. Anybody who uses firefox knows that there is the little Google search box in the top right corner. Well this guy didn’t clear his out and it said “Brittney’s panties”. Oooopps…..

Guess we knew what he was doing while waiting to give the demo!
