Amazon getting into the payment arena
Amazon is adding a payment processing service to the mix of web services. The biggest difference is that, like their other services, it uses a web API eliminating the need for native client APIs. Of course there will probably be third party libraries written but that is OK too.
Some of the features include:
- Send and receive using bank accounts, credit cards and Amazon Payments
- Execute single, multiple and even recurring transactions
- Execute transactions where you are neither the sender nor the receiver. As Amazon puts it, you could build a marketplace application.
- They have a sandbox area so you can build and test applications
Beyond these you can also specify payment instructions such as transaction dates, which party pays the fees, etc. using Amazons gate keeper language. You view all of the details and sign up for their beta here.
