A real world Ruby on Rails app

InfoQ has a Ruby on Rails case study written by Bruce Tate. The application in question is called ChangingThePresent, but what I like about the case study is the depth of info that Bruce provides about the development process they use, decisions they made, etc.

Some of the statements made seem to show a hint of RoR pat on the back such as:

Though other organizations projected larger teams (from 10 to 15 developers), we’ve been able to keep our team small.

Well, of course an outside org is going to use more developers, not because they have to but to generate more revenue. Bruce mentions finding talented Ruby developers from all over. Well, take a team of 5 really skilled Java developers and you could achieve the same results.

The meat of the write up subtlely brings up some of RoR’s shortcomings, namely in performance and how they plan to overcome the issues. What would really be nice however is to see the numbers on pageviews versus their hardware setup. Maybe he will touch on that in the future?

Either way, it is nice to see a fairly detailed writeup on a Rails driven site.
